When a recent roof replacement included new skylights but no window treatments, the homeowner asked for a way to darken the living room for movie nights and naps for visiting grandchildren. They wanted a solution that did not require buying entirely new skylights.
The Project Challenge
The roofer had replaced the skylights during the roof work but did not offer solar blinds. The homeowner needed room-darkening shades that would work with the existing rooftop units and provide sufficient control over daylight for specific activities in the living room.
Our Solution
We provided labor and materials to install two white room-darkening solar blinds into the homeowner’s two existing skylights. The products installed were Velux room darkening solar blinds, specifically Velux FSCC 2246 white solar blinds. To fit the new blinds, we detached the existing skylights, installed the operable solar blinds, and then reset the skylights.
The Finished Project
The homeowner kept their existing skylights and received the requested room-darkening solution without replacing the skylights themselves. We completed the scope of work—installing the two Velux solar operable blinds and reseating the skylights—and the homeowner was pleased that the project avoided purchasing new skylights.
